CRITICAL CARE INTENSIVIST

The University of Iowa Department of Anesthesia is seeking a qualified Critical Care Intensivist to join a collaborative, interdisciplinary team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced clinical and academic intensivists in the Surgical and Neurosciences ICU (SNICU) and Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU), within a team-based model that includes residents, fellows, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNPs), and Physician Assistants (PAs). In addition to clinical responsibilities, the position involves active supervision and mentorship of students, residents, fellows, SRNAs, and non-anesthesia rotators, with a strong emphasis on education and training in a high-acuity academic environment. Faculty appointments are available on the Clinical or Tenure Track at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, depending on qualifications. Appointment at the rank of Instructor (non-track) may also be considered.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Provide high-quality, team-based anesthesia and critical care in surgical and cardiovascular intensive care units.
- Serve as an integral member of a multidisciplinary care team, collaborating with physicians, APPs, nurses, and allied health professionals to optimize patient outcomes
- Actively participate in the academic mission of the Department and the Carver College of Medicine, including teaching, mentoring, and curriculum development
- Supervise and provide formative developmental feedback to medical students, residents, fellows, SRNAs, and non-anesthesia rotators in both clinical and academic settings (verbally and in writing).
- Prepare and deliver educational content, including lectures, case discussions, and simulation-based learning.
- Demonstrated experience in promoting a team-based work environment
- Participate in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives (optional but encouraged).

CLERKSHIP DIRECTOR

The University of Iowa Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a Medical Student Clerkship Director. Appointment rank may be at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level on either the tenure track or the clinical (non-tenure) track, consistent with prior experience and qualifications. The Clerkship Director will provide leadership, oversight, and guidance in all aspects of the undergraduate medical education mission for student rotators in the Department of Emergency Medicine. The successful candidate will also maintain an active clinical emergency medicine or pediatric emergency medicine practice.
The general responsibilities for the successful candidate will include administration and oversight of the required Emergency Medicine clerkship, which is taken by all University of Iowa medical students during their core clinical year, and the advanced Emergency Medicine elective, one of the most popular senior student rotations. Specific duties include orienting, teaching, and evaluating rotating students; ensuring compliance with all collegiate objectives and LCME accreditation standards; participating in bimonthly Clinical Experiences Committee meetings; developing and delivering clerkship didactics; administering the end-of-rotation exam; and contributing to the standardized letter of evaluation (SLOE) process for students applying to Emergency Medicine residency. The Clerkship Director will be a member of the departmental education leadership team and will work closely with faculty, residents, and administrative staff to ensure excellence in the educational mission.
The Clerkship Director will report to the Department of Emergency Medicine Vice Chair for Education. The successful candidate will also provide leadership, mentoring, and oversight to the Assistant Clerkship Director, the Clerkship Coordinator, and all students and trainees rotating in the Department of Emergency Medicine. The Clerkship Director will have dedicated administrative support and access to professional development opportunities supported by the Department of Emergency Medicine.

FACULTY MEDICAL PHYSICIST
Department: Radiation Oncology

Medical Physics Division:
The University of Iowa is seeking a medical physicist for a faculty appointment in the Medical Physics Division of the Department of Radiation Oncology. A successful Ph.D. candidate will be appointed on the tenure or non-tenure clinical track at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor, and a successful M.S.-prepared candidate will be appointed as a faculty instructor. The medical physicist will join 13 radiation oncologists, 6 radiation oncology residents, 13 faculty medical physicists, 4 medical physics residents, one faculty engineer, 8 dosimetrists, 2 systems administrators, and 1 staff engineer. Responsibilities will include a broad range of clinical service, teaching and research based on the candidate’s interests and qualifications. We are seeking an individual who desires to participate in the standard duties found in a comprehensive radiation therapy program and who has the capability to advance our clinical and/or academic mission through the execution of clinical and/or research projects.
The external beam radiation therapy program is well-established, with three Elekta Versa HD linear accelerators, an Elekta Gamma Knife Icon, and an Elekta Unity MRI linear accelerator. The Department has a strong brachytherapy program, with an Elekta Flexitron high-dose-rate brachytherapy afterloader, intracavitary/interstitial capability for gynecological cases, and low-dose-rate brachytherapy eye plaque implants. A Siemens Vida 3T MRI scanner is in the Department across the hall from the high-dose-rate brachytherapy suite, and cervical cancer HDR treatments are delivered using MR-guidance as the standard of care. Brachytherapy treatment planning is performed using the Elekta Oncentra treatment planning software. The Department is equipped with a 4-D Siemens Biograph PET/CT scanner, a mobile C-arm imager for fluoroscopy, optical and infra-red non-ionizing image guidance systems, and 6-degree-of-freedom robotic patient positioning systems. Specialized capabilities include 4D imaging/treatment planning/delivery, frame-based and frameless stereotactic radiosurgery, flattening-filter-free stereotactic body radiation therapy with gated VMAT, and MRI-guided adaptive radiation therapy. Departmental software includes the Mosaiq oncology information system, Philips Pinnacle (replacement pending), Elekta One Planning (Monaco + MIM), Epic electronic medical record system, and the Varian Velocity image registration and dose accumulation software. The medical physics group also provides coverage at four partner sites, one with an Elekta VersaHD linear accelerator and three with Varian linear accelerators including two TrueBeam systems. Candidates interested in executing complex clinical projects are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Department has three divisions: The Radiation Oncology Clinic, the Medical Physics division, and the Ph.D.-granting Free Radical Radiation Biology division. The Department has developed highly productive interdisciplinary collaborations that have resulted in federal research funding in multiple other departments including Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Radiology. The Department has a successful research program and has multiple federally funded investigators with grants at the level of R21, R01, and SPORE. An XStrahl Small Animal Radiation Research Platform (SARRP) is available enabling cone-beam-CT-guided radiation therapy research using small animals at the Iowa Institute for Biomedical Imaging facility. A Public Private Partnership (P3) grant was obtained for the installation of a research-dedicated custom FLASH linear accelerator, with electron beam capability initially and with a planned upgrade to x-ray FLASH capability. The FLASH linear accelerator went live with electron capability in May 2025. Candidates with research interests that significantly contribute to the overall departmental academic effort are strongly encouraged to apply.

The UI HCCC is the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center, a distinction it has held since 2000. The center coordinates all cancer related research, education, and patient care by faculty and staff from 41 departments and six colleges across the university. A hallmark of the HCCC is multi-investigator collaboration among basic, clinical, and population scientists. In concert with University of Iowa Health Care, the HCCC is expanding its clinical practice to additional sites such as its Quad Cities campus in Bettendorf, IA, outreach sites, and collaboration with community oncologists and critical access hospitals to provide access to cutting edge treatments and clinical trials. In addition, UI Health Care recently forged an agreement with Mission Cancer + Blood to create a comprehensive cancer care network across the state of Iowa, which will greatly increase access to advanced cancer treatment and research across the State of Iowa.
The successful candidate for Deputy Director will be a creative leader and an accomplished administrator who understands the changing healthcare environment and is able to leverage the Center’s strengths to advance and support excellence in the delivery of clinical care and community engagement. The Deputy Director will be responsible for access, care delivery and coordination of cancer care at all UI Health sites, and cooperative efforts such as outreach and community collaboration to deliver exceptional care. This individual will foster excellent relationships across the institution and region, and will build innovative clinical programs. Stature in academic medicine in an oncology-related discipline (basic science, surgery, medical oncology, or radiation oncology), a record of effective administrative and ï¬scal leadership, exceptional interpersonal skills, and positive interactions with students, staff, and faculty are all important qualifications.

OPTOMETRIST FACULTY

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences has a long-standing history of providing outstanding care for our patients, conducting leading-edge, collaborative research, and educating the next generation of ophthalmologists and vision science researchers.
The department is currently seeking an academically oriented optometrist to join a team of established providers. Appointment at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or full Professor and to the clinical (non-tenure) track consistent with clinical experience. The position entails clinical activity at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics main campus, Iowa River Landing Ambulatory site as well as possible outreach sites. Opportunities are available for teaching residents and medical students in the clinic and in small group classes. As with all members of the faculty, expectations include maintaining high clinical and ethical standards that are carried into the decision-making process. Adhering to compliance measures, establishing, and promoting an atmosphere of unity through collaborative practice and effective communication, and fostering a high level of patient and staff satisfaction.
The department currently supports 18 residents and 6 first year interns in the Ophthalmology training program, as well as fellowships in Pediatric Ophthalmology, Pediatric Inherited eye disorders, Glaucoma, Neuro Ophthalmology, Cornea, Oculoplastics and Surgical and Medical Retina. The department has multiple providers conducting clinical research strongly supported by a trials team and institutional resources.
