Denise J. Jamieson, the James Robert McCord Professor and Chair of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emory University School of Medicine and chief of gynecology and obstetrics for Emory Healthcare, has been named vice president for medical affairs and dean of the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa. She will begin Aug. 1.

Graduates of the Carver College of Medicine and their families and friends are invited to the college’s spring 2023 commencement ceremony on Friday, May 12.

Claire Carmichael grew up in Oskaloosa, Iowa, watching her mother contribute to the community as a veterinarian. Now headed to Kaiser Permanente for a family medicine residency, she looks forward to returning home to serve the health needs of her hometown's people.

Jessica Roberts De Haan of Navarre, Florida, loved connecting with patients as a physician assistant. When she decided to advance her career by going to medical school, she had to figure out how to balance her studies with her service in the National Guard and her growing family. She plans to work as a medical missionary to advance global health.

Two University of Iowa faculty members have been awarded Williams-Cannon Faculty Fellowships through the Iowa Neuroscience Institute. Marie Gaine, PhD, assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences and experimental therapeutics, and Qiang (Johnson) Zhang, MD, clinical assistant professor of neurology, will each receive $47,500 in research funding.
